Inon the evening of Friday, Aug. Her parents, Ben and Jude, had tried to get her older brother, Josh, to go with them to meet her plane. Fifteen-year-old Josh refused.
In a small tent in the middle of the Panamanian jungle, Carly Schwartz clutched a plastic bag in her hands, wrestling with the idea of killing herself. She sat cross-legged on a makeshift bed, her body shaking as tears streamed down her cheeks. When Schwartz arrived in the Tres Brazos jungle just over a year beforehand, life had looked dramatically different.
With teen suicides on the rise locally, one Miami County mother who lost her son in has advice to share with other parents. He was a scout leader, an athlete, had a girlfriend and led youth group at church. He had mild Attention Deficit Disorder and had been prescribed medication that came with a side effect warning about potential suicidal thoughts in teens.
Amanda Michelle Todd November 27, — October 10,   was a year-old Canadian student and victim of cyberbullying who committed suicide by hanging at her home in Port Coquitlama city in the province of British ColumbiaCanada. Before her death, Todd posted a video on YouTube in which she used a series of flash cards to tell her experience of being blackmailed into exposing her breasts via webcam,  and of being bullied and physically assaulted. The video went viral after her death,  resulting in international media attention.
